Time To Revive

If not for you, than for me.

Such a delay, could not be helped. My apologies!

It's summer time in Kansas City. I've already discovered things that would make for a good entry. Some examples:

Art Incubators (freight elevator, art spaces, creativity everywhere)
Coffee Shop in Crossroads promoting GLBT (is that the right order of letters meaning someone not straight)
North (the restaurant, not the direction)
Napoleon Bakery
Olive Cafe (hookah's anyone?)

Again, just a short list. But I'm back. Ready to write. Ready to go see even more of what I don't know about this city. I'm excited for whatever the next post shall expose of where I've been.

I'll end with my favorite expression as of late: Woot.

Mission Statement

Above all, try something. -Franklin D. Roosevelt

Dear Curious Reader,

My name is Katie Garman. I'm a 24 year old resident of Kansas City and I have decided to write a blog. This posting is merely an introduction to what I hope will be an interesting experiment for me, and a fantastic read for you.

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Kansas City. This translates into a wonderful American childhood, followed by dorky and somewhat rebellious teen years because I was upset with my parents for my midnight curfew (those bastards). But as soon as I went to college, I was convinced that I had a serious need to move away. I thought Kansas City would never provide the kind of excitement and cutting edge environment that I so often craved . I was convinced that it would be nothing short of an epic fail if I didn't move. As luck would have it, I got a great job in Kansas City that I couldn't resist (damn it). So here I was, stuck in a city I had pegged a dull and lifeless place. It is now two years later, and I can say with complete certainty that I was an idiot.

The purpose of this blog is simple. I want to discover Kansas City in its fullest and effulgent light. I have given myself the assignment to attend a KC event or gathering every week. I will hunt down the Pitch KC calendar, endlessly read Ink's upcoming events and report back with the hope of encouragement for KC residents and our wonderful city. These events can range from concerts to political gatherings, trying new restaurants, or even joining the nice group of ladies who meet at the Border's by my house every Tuesday to sit around a table discussing books while knitting. Point is, I went from cursing the idea of staying here, to loving it. I started doing things and what can I say, I was entertained, yo. (yo = a word indicating I'm a cool hipster) .... (follow-up parenthesis, I refuse to take this too seriously, obviously)

That's what this blog is for. It is to be:

1) Interesting
2) Hilarious

This is not about me and my life, boring. This blog is about people and events going on around me, and putting myself into new and enlightening situations. If I turn boring or unfunny, it is your responsibility as a reader to let me know (please and thanks). On that note, 80% of what I write will be factual or story telling. The other 20% will be my opinion. I hope you discuss what I write. Additionally, I hope to write about more than "events" such as the following categories:

-Product Reviews (I own a snuggie, shamwow, and bumpits. I enjoy discussing things of this nature)
-Movie/Book Reviews
-Political Happenings
-Random Things Happen To Me. Fact. (these make for zesty stories in between events that I attend)

Finally, at the end of my posting, I intend on letting you know my next event. For example, I plan on going to Thomas on 39th St. I've heard they have great martini nights on Wednesdays and I've never been. I think I'll go while wearing a vintage hat and literally call the waiter "garcon" with a serious face. Maybe it'll fly with that kind of crowd, I don't know. But why not.

Cool. Introduction complete. I've officially committed myself to an interesting assignment, all while putting my story telling skills and personality traits online for all to see. Let the judging commence.
